Bat surveys to allow use of part of the Old Stable Block for office space for the National Trust. Bats included brown long-eared bats and common pipistrelle bats with historic use by lesser horseshoe bats. A Natural England bat mitigation licence was obtained. Mitigation included the retention of a large bat loft within the building and boxes in trees.

Carmelite Priory redevelopment, Barnet, London

Berkeley Homes

Ecological Impact Assessment for to support a planning application by Berkeley Homes to redevelop the Carmelite Priory in Barnet, London for residential use. The priory buildings supported common pipistrelle bats. These were mitigated in the development under a Natural England bat mitigation licence. A Code for Sustainable Homes report included ecological enhancements for the site.

Harcourt Arboretum

Oxford University

Great crest newt surveys and botanical surveys to support an application to extend the car park at Oxford University’s arboretum. A Natural England great crested newt mitigation licence was obtained to allow trapping of newts from the area.

New access road to Oxford Brookes University Wheatley Campus

Ecological Impact Assessment to support a planning application for a new access road to the Oxford Brookes University Wheatley Campus. Surveys included phase 1, great crested newts, bats, reptiles and badger (all of which are present on the site). Natural England great crested newt and badger mitigation licences were obtained.

Catsbrain Farm, near Aylesbury

Bat and great crested newt surveys were carried out to support a planning application to convert the buildings to 5 new dwellings. Natural England bat and great crested newt mitigation licences were obtained. The buildings supported a brown long-eared nursery roost and small numbers of common puiostrelle bats. The existing buildings were demolished and a new residential development built. Monitoring in 2013 recorded a maternity roost of 13 brown long-eared bats in the new bat loft.

Gill Mill, West Oxfordshire

Smiths & Sons (Bletchington) Ltd

An Ecological Impact Assessment was undertaken to support a planning application by Smiths (Bletchington) Ltd for an extension of mineral working at Gill Mill, Oxfordshire. The 184ha site supports an existing quarry and 73ha of farmland along the River Windrush. Surveys included breeding birds, wintering birds, bats, badger, great crested newts, reptiles and arable plants. The site will be largely restored for nature conservation with 62ha of reed bed, 30ha of reedswamp / wet woodland, 22ha of lowland meadow, 15ha woodland and ponds.

Delancey Hospital site, Cheltenham

An Ecological Impact Assessment was completed to support a planning application by Berkeley Homes to redevelop the Delancey Hospital site in Cheltenham for residential use with an extra care facility. The hospital buildings supported common pipistrelle, brown long-eared and lesser horseshoe bats. These were mitigated in the development under a Natural England bat mitigation licence. Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM reports were produced for the residential and extra care facility respectively.
